iPlod The UK’s first location based policing iPhone app has been unveiled by Greater Manchester Police and will allow people to help fight crime in the region. Using geo-location technology, the app provides access to information about the nearest police station and neighbourhood policing team information, officers' details, meetings, student safety zones and an ‘around me’ feature that plots news, appeals and wanted people nearby the user. ~ 22 Jan ~ click here to get the app ~

The shortlived Purity bar, which replaced Bar 38 on Peter Street in April 2012 has closed down already with debts of over £460,000. The owners blame the bad weather during the summer and the reduced number of students in the city having less disposable income following the introduction of tuition fees. ~ 25th Jan
