Manchester City Council has granted permission for a huge new mixed-use development in First Street, next to Whitworth Street West, allowing an August 2014 opening.
Designed by Dutch architect Mecanoo, the impressive new arts complex will be home to the new Cornerhouse Cinema and Library Theatre Company, and a 208-bed Innside hotel together with ten units for bars, restaurants and shops, plus a 700-space multi-storey car park. ~ 29 Jun
Lambrini Cider, which was launched into Asda and Tesco last year, has now been released to the bar trade.
In contrast to other flavoured ciders, which are largely marketed towards men, The 4% ABV sparkling cider will be aimed at "girls who just wanna have fun" and comes in Pear & Apple, Summer Fruits or Forest Fruits flavours. ~ 26 Jun
Premium soft drinks manufacturer Fentimans has launched a new range of mixers for the bar trade with the addition of 125ml bottles of Light Tonic Water and Ginger Ale joining the original Tonic Water and Ginger Beer.
Botanically brewed by Robinsons in Stockport for the Northumberland based company, the drinks contain only 100% natural products with no artifical sweeteners . ~ 22 Jun
The stunning building on York Street in the city centre which houses Browns bar and brasserie as well as the Linder Myers law firm, is up for sale for more than £2.6m.
The listed building, built in 1902 was designed by architect Charles Heathcote as offices for Parrs Bank. In recent years it was home to Athenaeum bar before Browns moved in January 2011, highlighting many of the original fittings in the process. ~ 21 Jun

The team behind the brilliant Spinningfields pop-up bar, The Yacht Club, have opened another temporary venue across town in Exchange Square. Inspired by Europe's brightly coloured pop-art gardens, the glass pavilioned Summer House, offers cocktails served in watering cans, made from some of the city's most recognisable award-winning bar staff. Standing in the spot vacated by the Manchester Wheel, the summery bar with its white picket fencing, trees and foliage, will battle the elements of Manchester's weather from the 1st June until 30th September. ~ 1 Jun

Following the long but successful Pride Of Manchester-backed battle to prevent Peel Holdings and Ian Simpson Architects from building an ugly block of apartments on the old Jackson's Wharf plot in Castlefield, the long-time derelict building is set to re-open on 3rd July as The Wharf, a 370 cover bar and restaurant from local operator Brunning & Price. ~ 28th June 2012
