Dog Bowl Manchester Dog Bowl Manchester

Fans of The Big Lebowski can now enjoy cocktails inspired by the classic 90s cult movie whilst doing what The Dude does best; bowling. Manchester’s boutique bowling alley, Dog Bowl, has revamped its drinks menu and introduced a fresh new range of themed cocktails with the movie in mind.

Award-winning cocktail creationist Massimo Zitti is the mastermind behind the new cocktails. As the Head of Drinks Development and Training at Manchester’s Black Dog Ballroom Group, Massimo was given the task of redesigning Dog Bowl’s cocktail menu.

Massimo said, “The bar team at Dog Bowl all love The Big Lebowski, and our regulars talk about the movie all the time when they come to bowl, so we thought it would be fun to integrate this theme into our drinks menu. We’re confident that even people who haven’t watched the movie will appreciate the cocktails as much as the avid fans do.”

Dog Bowl has created a selection of cocktails inspired by the main character, Jeff Lebowski, including: ‘The Dude’ - made with Finlandia Vodka, Kahlua coffee liqueur, milk and cream (served in a milk carton just like Jeff drank) and ‘Jeff’s Spiced Milk Punch’ - made with Bacardi Carta Blanca rum, Bacardi Carta Fuego rum, pineapple juice, milk, cream, homemade cinnamon syrup, chocolate bitters and grated nutmeg.

Other new drinks on the menu inspired by the Cohen brothers’ movie include ‘Kidnapped Fizz’ with Bombay Sapphire gin, peach liqueur, vanilla essence, milk, cream, fresh lemon juice, fresh lime juice and soda, or the ‘California Strong Shake’ - with Finlandia vodka, white chocolate liqueur, milk, caramel syrup and fresh strawberries.

The ‘Lebowski’ range of cocktails are priced at £7.50 each and are available now. For more information click here

Cabana Comes To The Corn Exchange

Cabana, the award winning Brasilian barbecue restaurant group, has officially opened in the newly redeveloped Corn Exchange building. Bringing their unique Brasilian spirit to Manchester, Cabana’s new 6,000 sq ft restaurant has 230 covers along with a dedicated Caipirinha Bar on the first floor, making Cabana the ideal place to inject some South American energy into your life.

Tuesday 28th October saw a VIP tasting evening where Coronation Street starlets Brooke Vincent and Catherine Tyldesley joined friends for a fun evening of Caipirinhas and Skewers, while on Wednesday 29th October, Cabana brought the heat to Manchester with a Latin-inspired party that got people’s taste buds tingling and hips shaking.

With sets from VIVA Ems and Rowetta on vocals, plus critically acclaimed DJ Lewis Robinson, the man behind Mais Um Discos - the Brasilian label representing the NEW sounds of Brasil, the party started early and lasted into the night.

Guests sampled an array of Cabana’s colourful barbecue skewers, including their best-selling Spicy Malagueta Chicken and chilli and cumin Cabana Steak, as well as a selection of Brasilian street food snacks such as Coxinhas (croquettes of shredded chicken and spices) and Bolinhos (crunchy fried rice balls).

Albert's Schloss - Manchester Albert's Schloss - Manchester
Revolution Founders Plan ‘World’s Best Bars’ After Buying 50% Stake In Manchester Operator, Trof Group

Revolution Vodka Bar founders, Roy Ellis and Neil Macleod, have acquired a 50 per cent stake in Manchester bar operator Trof Group, founded by Joel Wilkinson and Adelaide Winter, with a view to opening the “best entertainment venues and bars in the world” under a new company called Mission Mars.

Trof Group has a £6m annual turnover and operates three multi-award winning venues in Manchester, including Gorilla and Deaf Institute. The first project for Mission Mars is the £3.5m opening of Albert’s Schloss on the ground floor of the grade II-listed 3,000 capacity Albert Hall on Peter Street.

Albert Hall, the 2,500 capacity main chapel above Albert’s Schloss has been operated for two years as a live entertainment venue by Trof Group, hosting more than 130 sell-out events, including gigs by Sam Smith, the Manic Street Preachers and The Script.

Wilkinson said: “We operate some of Manchester’s most successful and exciting venues with Gorilla and Deaf Institute firmly established on the live band and club scene. When we acquired the 3,000 capacity Albert Hall on Peter Street we knew of only two people who had the knowledge and experience that could help us achieve our ambitious dreams for this beautiful and iconic Manchester landmark.

“The addition of Albert’s Schloss to Albert Hall completes the vision we had back in 2008 when we opened The Deaf Institute. It was our dream to have beautiful venues, hosting World-class entertainment with hospitality, food and drink to match. We can't wait to open the doors and invite music lovers in to enjoy an incredible experience, the only one of its kind in the UK. We are also going to be offering private parties, corporate events and conferences along with the weddings we launched last year.”

Albert’s Schloss will be a unique food, drink and entertainment venue, described as a Bohemian pleasure palace. Both bohemian in nature and in spirit; Bohemia is in the Czech republic, bound by Bavaria and Schloss means nobles house for recreation.

Albert’s Schloss will be an upmarket addition to the Manchester bar and restaurant scene with attention to detail like nowhere else in the City. For example freshly brewed Pilsner Urquel will be delivered by tanker, direct from the Czech Republic every week, and on- site blended schnapps made in a specially created vault.  The food menu, curated by group executive chef director, Dan Mullen, will contain items of Bavarian, Bohemian and Alpine origin with contemporary twists in addition to other modern classics and will have an in-house bakery providing fresh bread, pretzels, pastries and puddings.

Live music and an eclectic mix of performers will feature most nights on the stage and at weekends from 10pm.

Ellis said: “Our new company, Mission Mars, has been formed to create the best entertainment venues and bars in the world. We aim to have the very best venues to work in, be entertained in, and invest in.”

Crazty Pedros - Manchester Crazy Pedros - Manchester

Popular pizza joint enlists the help of local artists to raise money for charity. When you think about art the humble pizza box might not automatically spring to mind. However, Motor Square pizza parlour and cocktail bar Crazy Pedro’s are about to change all that.

To celebrate National Pizza Month throughout October the super-cool late night haunt is throwing down the gauntlet to local artists all in the name of charity. They’ve asked well-known names in the area to design their own pizza boxes which are to be displayed on their walls throughout October.

The month-long instillation will celebrate celebrate Manchester’s creative flair and, while names of the artists are being kept under wraps for now, there promises to be some unique and utterly original offerings. Amongst the contributors are famous Northern Quarter street artists and renowned tattooists.

The project will culminate with a special auction at the end of the month where the pieces will go on sale for charity. All money raised will go to The Christie hospital in Manchester and the team are hoping that people will get into the spirit of things and give generously for a chance to take home one of the unconventional pieces.

Lyndon Higginson, of The Liars Club and Crazy Pedro’s says; “We were looking for something imaginative and a little offbeat for National Pizza Month and that’s how we came up with the idea. The pizza box project really epitomises Crazy Pedro’s rebellious and unconventional attitude and we’re excited so many talented artists have got on board.

We can’t wait to put the creations on display for all our customers to enjoy and we’re sure they’ll make a welcome addition. After all where else would you find graffitied pizza boxes as part of the decor? Plus, raising lots of money for charity at the end of the month is the cherry on top.”

Local artists have until the 23rd October to submit their work which will then go on display throughout October to celebrate National Pizza Month.
