Illusions Magic Bar inside The Printworks has been forced to close after the landlord declined to renew the lease.
Instead, The Printworks are rumoured to be splitting the premises vacated by Illusions and the huge Pure nightclub nextdoor, which has also now closed, into 3 or 4 new units.
Hard Rock Cafe, one of the world's most recognisable brands, turns 40 in June and to celebrate will host 40 Days That Rock. The Manchester branch, 10 years old itself this year, will be holding free concerts with Queen, Bon Jovi and Oasis tribute bands amongst others and a free burger for
the first person each day between 18th May and 26th June who says "Happy Birthday Hard Rock" to the host.
The Briton's Protection celebrate the 200th anniversary of being licensed premises in 2011. There will be a charity weekend of celebrations with the first 200 people enjoying pints at 10p, the equivalent of 1811 prices, on June 10th & 11th. The Pride Of Manchester Award-winning 'Best Pub In Manchester' 2009 & 2010 now stocks over 250 whiskeys after adding Swiss, Swedish, Czech, Corsican and Alsatian bottles this month.
The proceeds of Manchester United defender Gary Neville's testimonial match on
24th May will go towards a new Manchester United supporters' bar and hotel, he has confirmed. Located at the end of Sir Matt Busby Way, next to the Bridgewater Canal, it is set to
host up to 1,500 fans on match days. Next door, the huge
1925 Liverpool Warehousing Co Ltd building has been given the green light to become a
gigantic 775 bedroom hotel complex in an unrelated development.
The massive Pure nightclub inside The Printworks follows Opus in closing down after 5 years with the venue rumoured to be split into 2 or 3 new units.
Having sold off all the fixtures and fittings, Pure's promise to return to Manchester later in the year, either in the same unit or elsewhere in the city, will be watched with interest.
Australasia, the new Pacific Rim Pan Asian themed bar and restaurant below Georgio Armani in Spinningfields Deansgate, is to open on May 24th. The new venue from Australian-born Living Ventures entrepeneur Tim Bacon, can be accessed from a glass pyramid on Deansgate next to John Rylands Library.
It will have a 3am licence on Fridays and Saturdays, a signature cocktail list and guest DJs

The Ritz has closed down
to undergo a full £2m refurbishment after being bought by HMV. It's set to reopen as a live music venue and club on the 7th September with a gig from Public Enemy. ~ 5th May 2011
