1000 New Hotel Rooms for a Run Down Area of Piccadilly
28 Jun 2019
German budget hotel chain Meininger, who offer a hybrid between a designer budget hotel and a traditional hostel, are the latest operator to announce plans to open a 12 storey, 212-bedroom (785 bed) franchise, next to the new Fabrica office building and 150-room Ibis Budget hotel on Great Ancoats Street.
The "New Islington" building is expected to be completed by January 2022 and will replace a car park, which sits opposite the plot of land on Adair Street where the Midland Hotel's new owners will also open a 275-room Leonardo Hotel in 2021.

With private rooms and dormitories, the Meininger Hotel Manchester are set to submit a planning application in August, which promises to feature a lounge, breakfast room, bar, guest kitchen and a games zone.
With the 137-bedroom Dakota Hotel already open around the corner, the neighbouring 166-room Native Apartment Hotels inside the redeveloped Place Apartment Hotel, and the Mayfield Depot live music venue set to be transformed, this run down area behind Piccadilly Station is set to get an interesting influx of new bars and restaurants.
